The Airport is committed to following strict industry standards and has gone above and beyond to help ease travelers’ concerns for their health and safety by adding enhanced and more frequent cleaning procedures especially in “high-touch” or frequently visited areas, strategically placed disinfecting wipe stations (i.e. baggage claim area & security checkpoints) and conveniently located hand sanitizer dispensers, easy-to-see social distancing chair, and floor markings, clear and informative safety reminders displayed on LED screens throughout the airport as well as CDC Guidance announcements in both English and Spanish reminding travelers of best practices to stay safe. As an added layer of safety, convenience, and courtesy for travelers, MFE has also added three cell phone and/or tablet charging stations (each with 8 lockers) that use UV-C to sanitize your electronics while charging. MFE continues to work closely with the CDC and Hidalgo County Health Department to monitor the situation during this time, making any adjustments as necessary or required.

Metro McAllen

The health and safety of passengers and operators is the most important priority for Metro. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Metro has worked tirelessly to keep riders safe from infection from the coronavirus. By pledging on to the McAllen Stay Safe Program, Metro is actively working to instill confidence in riders that it’s committed to protecting their health and safety.

Research has been developed after asking transit users from across the country what measures would make them feel more confident riding public transportation amid concerns about COVID-19. From this research, the industry identified four key areas that transit systems need to address to earn riders’ confidence:

  • Following public health guidelines from official sources
  • Cleaning and disinfecting transit vehicles frequently and requiring face coverings and other protections
  • Keeping passengers informed and empowered to choose the safest times and routes to ride
  • Putting health first by requiring riders and employees to avoid public transit if they have been exposed to COVID-19 or feel ill

Metro has pledged to meet these commitments by creating specific policies that are effective for our system, our riders, and our community. A key component of the Stay Safe Commitments Program is the shared responsibility of its system and its riders to follow the guidelines. Riders rely on us to follow these commitments, and Metro relies on riders to protect themselves and other customers.

Additionally, we have added hand sanitizer dispensers, easy-to-see social distancing seating, and floor markings which provide clear safety reminders for travelers and guests. The McAllen International Bridge System is committed to working closely with Federal, State, County, and local agencies to ensure the safety of all who visit the McAllen International Bridge Systems.
