Beat the Heat! Summers in South Texas can be HOT but there are plenty of ways to keep your cool when it comes to family fun. McAllen’s Parks & Rec Department offers two free Splash Parks as well as the Municipal Pool that features a giant twisting and turning slide! If you seriously need to cool off try the Frio Grande Valley indoor ice rink. After your cool fun is over and the sun goes down it’s time for some food! The McAllen Food Truck Park offers a variety of dining options guaranteed that no one will argue over where to eat.
Need a little culture and hands-on learning? Visit the International Museum of Art & Science and try out the Digi Wall and the Science on a Sphere Exhibit. The first Thursday of the month is Family Fun Night that features special programming and extended hours.
Looking for some adventure? Try one of McAllen’s Trampoline Parks; Get Air, Xtreme Jump, or SkyPark Trampoline. If you want to keep your feet sort of on the ground you can grab the skateboards and try out one of two McAllen’s Parks & Rec skate parks.
Families with children with special needs can enjoy the Orchid Inclusive Playground. This wheelchair-accessible playground offers children sensory-rich experiences through play components, activity panels, a ramping system, and slides. The structure is meant to invite children of all abilities to be active, learn through play, create memories, and form friendships. Another option is the Sensory Playground at Morris Park which offers unique musical instruments as well as, ADA compliant workout stations
Been busy all day but still need to squeeze in some family fun? Head to the McAllen Convention Center District to ride the swan boats at Oval Park. Once everyone has worked up an appetite take the family to Chuck E. Cheese at Palms Crossing Shopping Center so no one has to cook dinner and the fun continues.
